Anyone here have a favorite Ring Modulator ?
I'm talking analog stompbox, not software.
I'm thinking about getting another. I use to have a Colorsound and the DOD Gonkulator. The Gonkulator sucked, so I sold it. The Colorsound was traded a while back.
I plan on using it with analog synths and sound processing (tape loops, samples etc).
I'm thinking either the Moogerfooger or Electro Harmonix.
Anyone have experience with these or a recommendation on another brand ?

Re: Ring Modulator
Sun, September 4, 2005 - 6:28 PMThe Alesis INEKO has a cool ring modulator in it.
It's not a sophisticated pedal (you can't save presets)
but it does a great job.
They also made it in a one space rack version called the
AKIRA.
The Moogerfooger (got bless Robert Moog and may he rest in peace)
is awesome but really pricey in the $300 USD range.
I'd give my left nut to have any of those pedals but they are out of my league, financially. -

Thu, September 15, 2005 - 1:35 AMThe Moog is absolutely amazing. Huge range of sounds and control capabilities.
I have one in my Boss GT5 and use it quite a bit. Great real time control with that box as well... you can blend it; chop in and out with it for very spliced sounding events, etc.

Re: Ring Modulator
Sun, November 6, 2005 - 12:05 AMObviously any analog ring modulator will be better than a digital emulation, but I must add that I have a Roland SP808 and the Ring Mod effect in there is killer--this might be present in other Roland rack effects and their 8 track recorders etc.
In the SP 808, there are assignable knobs and multiple parameters to tweak--you can also copy the effects pattern of another patch onto the Ring Mod patch making for combos that one would not expect.
I would lean towards teh Electo Harmonix overall.
Good luck on your quest for the Ring. May it be Mod. -

Mon, November 7, 2005 - 5:17 PMThe all-digital ring mod presets in my Digitech Space Station are all I need, though some think it's limited controls too primitive. If this is true, call me a Spaceman/Caveman.
