i'm looking for a pedal that takes a polyphonic signal (a guitar), discerns the root note (the note a bass would play), and pitch shifts that root note down to fill in the bass frequencies when i'm playing solo and my bass player is too hung over to play.
does such a pedal exist?

Re: polyphony-->monophony bass emulation pedal?
Mon, June 2, 2008 - 3:10 PMnot to my knowledge, Je'si,
but the Octave Fuzz setting on BOSS OD20 Distortion Emulator lets one play
power chords that sound like Godzilla stepped onto the pavement.
Additionally, the new Dan Electro series octaver, called the CHILI DOG
is a really effective double octaver. It tracks a lot better than
the Boss Octave stomp box pedal and it is only $29 USD which is
absurdly cheap.
The great Norwegian bassist Arild Andersen was so impressed that he bought
mine off of me after we played at the Y2K7 Live Looping Festival when he returned
to Norway.
this will NOT , however, discern the lowest note only. -

Re: polyphony-->monophony bass emulation pedal?
Sat, August 2, 2008 - 4:57 PMi've been working with some of the same issues, and have found the EH pedals pretty good about tracking. the original octave multiplexer makes all kinds of glitchy noises, and tracks the loudest note played to drop into the octave. they have a new series, the POG and micro POG (polyphonic octave generator) which tracks better. Just having this pedal doesnt replace the serious low end that a real live bass player can give without some sacrifice. maybe running stereo and splitting your signal into a bass amp, with an octave exclusively for that side might work..
